In Security Belt, Labern papered out cell number three in current local German newspapers, an obsessive drawing over 24hours relocated the images status within the paper, giving photographs a new and random significance; this reflects the artist’s research on Artoll’s previous life as a mental health institution for women, many of whom had been admitted to this place, en mass, for not accepting society’s social treatment of them, for rebellion and unbearable distress that sent many mad. During the second world war, gas vans came into Bedberg Hau and many who did not conform to the norm, were exterminated. In the process of the drawing, Labern  blackened out the world financial index, creating a shadow in graphite dust on the floor”
